If you don't want cold,  then eat ginger

唔想凍薑就食薑

"If you're brave enough, then slap! Stop talking so much." Many Hong Kong people are probably familiar with this line. It comes from Stephen Chow's *Flirting Scholar*, where Tang Bohu exchanges words with Madam Hua. The word 'ginger' here actually refers to the ingredient used in cooking, implying the meaning of 'having enough courage.'

Ginger is a plant of the genus Zingiber in the Zingiberaceae family, originally from maritime Southeast Asia, and was first cultivated by Austronesian peoples. Ginger produces yellow-green flowers and spicy rhizomes.

The root of ginger has a spicy taste and is an important seasoning in the cuisine of many places, usually used sliced, shredded, or ground into paste. In Asian cooking, it is commonly used to remove odors or as a spice and is often used together with spring onions and garlic. In the West, it is more often made into sweets, such as ginger candy and gingerbread. Ginger can also be used in beverages, such as ginger tea, ginger milk curd, and lemon soda with ginger, among others.

Functions

The root is famously spicy, but its nature is actually warm. It is not only suitable for winter use, but also a treasure for dispelling dampness in spring. In traditional Chinese medicine theory, raw ginger has a spicy and warm nature, enters the spleen, lung, and stomach meridians, aids digestive function, can expel bodily cold, promote peripheral blood circulation, and enhance metabolism. Ginger is also believed to have the effect of warming the meridians and expelling cold. For women with cold-type menstrual pain, drinking ginger tea can relieve menstrual cramps. So, why does it have these effects?

  1. Promotes digestion: Ginger contains gingerol and aromatic oils, which help promote digestion and relieve gastrointestinal discomfort and symptoms of indigestion.
  2. Anti-inflammatory: The gingerol in ginger is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties, which can help reduce pain and inflammatory responses, especially beneficial for conditions like arthritis.
  3. Boosts the immune system: Ginger contains antioxidants, which help strengthen the immune system and can aid in resisting colds and other illnesses.

Ginger tea can warm the uterus and promote blood circulation, thereby relieving pain. Among them, black sugar ginger jujube tea and black sugar lemon ginger tea are recommended.

Ginger has the effects of warming the body and dispelling cold from the meridians, nourishing the blood, improving blood circulation, and activating blood to resolve stasis, which can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. In addition, ginger also has anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties, alleviating discomfort caused by abdominal bloating. When consumed with red dates and brown sugar, it can tonify the middle, boost energy, nourish the blood, calm the mind, and warm the uterus, quickly and effectively improving symptoms of cold hands and feet, and can be used to treat early-stage wind-cold colds.

However, each person's physical condition is different, so the best course is to consult a doctor before drinking it.
