Irasutoya(Japanese: いらすとや) is a stock image website operated by the illustrator Takashi Mifune (みふねたかし). It primarily offers freely accessible and downloadable graphical illustrations.

irasutoya.combegan its operations on January 31, 2011, releasing multiple series of segmented illustrations. From that time until January 31, 2021 (a full decade!), Mr. Takashi uploaded new illustrations almost every day. Mr. Takashi values his privacy and does not enjoy interviews, nor has he ever publicly disclosed the reasons behind creating the website. However, from some of his statements, it can be inferred that part of the reason is his hobby, while another part is to provide a platform for others to view his work.

Before the establishment of Irasutoya, it was challenging to find high-quality and cohesive free illustrations in Japan. While other websites offered clip art, they either required payment, lacked the specific types you needed, or lacked a unique style. The illustration style created by Mr. Takashi perfectly filled this void.

From typical illustrations like sports, food, and famous landmarks to more niche topics such as how to cut various vegetables, Japan's coming-of-age ceremonies, and ancient creatures, Mr. Takashi dedicates time to cover various current events and issues of public concern, including LGBT rights, artificial intelligence, and environmental issues.

The turning point that garnered significant attention was around 2016 when X (formerly Twitter) popularized using illustrations for music album covers, video game covers, comics, and other popular media. Mr. Takashi rapidly released illustrations related to current events. As more and more people create digital content, the demand for illustrations is increasing, making Irasutoya's free, widely applicable, and consistent style truly appealing. Some of this digital content, such as blogs, online books, and websites, are self-published, making Irasutoya's user-friendliness particularly valuable. 

In 2019,Irasutoya.com was honored with the Practical Award at the first Association Awards by the Japan Society of Digital Archives (JSDA). This award recognizes contributions to digital art forms and their applications in society. In 2022, Irasutoya once again received accolades, this time the Excellence Award at the 21st/27th AMD Awards by the Digital Media Association. This award aims to recognize outstanding works and services in the latest digital content and to enhance work quality and promote human resource development.

Today, from emojis used in casual conversations among friends to fan-made commercial products and government announcements or signage, there is a chance to incorporate Mr. Takashi's illustrations. It has become so widespread!
